Sacha Baron Cohen has brought back his iconic character Ali G — this time on Centre Court at Wimbledon. During the men’s singles final, he appeared in a Wimbledon-coloured tracksuit with “Official Ganja Dealer” printed on the back, complete with gold jewellery, tinted glasses and his signature beanie hat.
Ali G, the faux-streetwise poser from Staines, first appeared in 1998 on The 11 O’Clock Show before landing his own series, Da Ali G Show, which ran for three seasons until 2004. A feature film, Ali G Indahouse, followed in 2002.
At Wimbledon, Cohen also posted on a newly launched Instagram account in character, with messages in classic Ali G style: “I iz BACK! And if u iz at dis borin wimbledore final lookin 2 get grand slammed, I iz here wif de hookup. dm me, especially if u iz fit.”
The appearance comes as Cohen prepares a new film featuring Ali G. Last July, The Sun exclusively revealed pictures of the actor in character filming at a zoo park in the Cotswolds. A passer-by described Cohen being in full character with an entire film crew, having updated Ali G’s wardrobe — though the tracksuit and beanie remained.
